How to choose a sleeping bag for a newborn?
Can babies wear sleep sacks from birth? Yes! Even such tiny babies? Really? Absolutely!
Read on to find out when you can put your baby in their first sleep sack, how to choose the right one, which size is ideal, what material to look for, when to buy one, and how long your little one can wear it.
Here is the English translation of the remaining excerpt:
Which sleeping bag will be best for my little one?
Right off the bat, let us reassure you: whichever one you pick will be the best choice. You can't go wrong with Vačice (Possums).
In this article, we'll explain step by step which newborn sleeping bags we make, the difference between Size S and Newborn, which materials we sew with, and why we do all of this in the first place.
...and by now, the answer to whether such a tiny newborn can wear a sleeping bag is probably becoming clear to you. So just to make it crystal clear for everyone:
Yes, you can dress even the newest newborn you know in a Vačice sleeping bag.
Alright, that's covered. That also gives us the answer to when you should buy a sleeping bag.
Feel completely free to buy it before the baby is born.
So let's take a look at the sizes.
If you are buying the veeeery first sleeping bag for your newborn little possum, you have two options in terms of size:
🦦 Newborn sleeping bag
🦦 Size S sleeping bag
Alright, but what's the difference?
We'll tell you:
You can dress your baby in our classic sleeping bag with feet (Size S) right from birth. However, you won't tuck their feet into the foot openings just yet—those will wait for the baby to grow into them. Until then, the bag is used with the feet tucked inside, so it looks just like any other newborn sleeping bag. A baby can wear this sleeping bag from 0 up to 2.5 years old.
The Newborn sleeping bag is slightly smaller. That's why we often recommend it for premature little possums. We haven't sewn feet onto these bags, so they function like classic sleeping bags. Babies can wear them from 0 to about 6 months. The Newborn sleeping bag is ideal if you aren't quite sure yet whether you'll want to continue with footed sleeping bags. You can buy it as a "test run." (Although we think once you try a Vačice, there's no turning back!)
And the material?
The most versatile material for all tiny possums is, of course, merino.
We would put all our hands in the fire for it. Our merino wool is:
🐑 Natural
🐑 Soft
🐑 Breathable
🐑 Hypoallergenic
🐑 Thermoregulating
🐑 Sustainable
🐑 Certified
You can find our sleeping bags in various designs and combinations depending on the materials used and their layers, which you can choose based on when your baby is born.
For instance, our Newborn sleeping bag is made from merino wool, making it suitable year-round and perfect for spring and autumn newborns.
We sew our sleeping bag with feet in several material options: merino, organic cotton, merino-tencel... thicker, thinner, warmer, and softer. For summer newborns, for example, we recommend our latest addition, the Summer Merino-Tencel Bag. As autumn approaches, feel free to use any of our year-round merino or cotton bags.
So, how about it?
