A weighted blanket is a great helper for children who are restless for various reasons (ADHD, autism, Asperger's syndrome, other sensory processing disorders). A blanket acts on a child in a similar way to a hug, with gentle pressure it gives the brain a signal to feel comfortable and the child calms down. This experience remains with them and creates new synapses in the child's brain - connections that can influence their behavior in the long term. Weighted blankets are especially useful for children with autism spectrum disorders who crave the touch and pressure of a hug, but are unable to tolerate normal physical expressions from their loved ones.
In a situation where the child is unfocused and you don't have a weighted blanket at hand, you can remind the child of the experience with the blanket: "Remember how you lay under the blanket, how pleasant it was." The memory will enter the memory trace and the child will calm down.
The functional weighted blanket soothes the body and psyche of the child based on deep pressure therapy. It is highly resistant to rough handling. Nidū blankets are handmade in Slovakia. The warm and cool side allows for use throughout the year.
The blankets were created in collaboration with experts and are also used in hospitals, schools, and therapy centers.
